This site is small and so is this policy. The short version: nothing is tracked unless you accept the cookie banner, and if you do, the only thing running is the Meta pixel.

Who is responsible

Light Years Ahead is a personal music project. The data controller for this site, in the sense of the GDPR, is its operator.

What is collected

If, and only if, you press Accept on the cookie banner, this site loads the Meta pixel on the release page. The pixel then collects:

• Your IP address
• Browser and device information (user agent, screen size, referring page)
• The page you are on, and which buttons you press on it — that is, which streaming service you chose to open the track in
• Meta cookies (_fbp, and _fbc if you arrived via an ad link) which give your browser an identifier
• If you are logged in to Facebook or Instagram in the same browser, Meta can connect this activity to your account

Why

This page is used as the landing page for ads on Facebook and Instagram. The pixel is how I see whether those ads actually bring people to the music, and which streaming service they choose once they arrive. It is audience measurement for a small independent release. Nothing is sold to anyone.

I may also use this data to show ads to people who have visited this page, or to people whose interests resemble theirs, using Meta's Custom and Lookalike Audiences.

Legal basis

Your consent, under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR, and the consent requirement for storing information on your device under the ePrivacy Directive. This is why the pixel does not load until you accept the marketing category in the consent banner. Declining is a real choice: no pixel script is requested, and no Meta cookies are set. Your choice is remembered in a cookie set by the consent banner itself, so you are not asked again on every visit.

Withdrawing consent

Use the Cookie choices link in the footer of the release page, or the button below, to reopen the consent banner and change your answer. You can also clear this site's cookies and site data in your browser settings. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that already happened.

Who else gets the data

Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd. processes this data on my behalf as a data processor, and is a joint controller with me for the collection and transmission of the pixel data, under the terms Meta publishes for its business tools. Meta may transfer data to the United States; it relies on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and Standard Contractual Clauses for those transfers. Meta's own data policy governs what it does with the data afterwards.

The site itself is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare processes requests in order to serve the page and may keep short-lived technical logs for security and reliability.

The consent banner is provided by Cookiebot (operated by Usercentrics). It runs on every page in order to ask for, record and remember your choice, and to give you a way to change it. Recording that choice is what makes consent demonstrable, so this part runs whether or not you accept anything — it is what the law calls strictly necessary. It stores your answer in a cookie on your device and processes your IP address to log the consent.

No one else receives anything. There is no analytics suite, no newsletter sign-up, no embedded player, no third-party fonts.

How long it is kept

Meta's pixel cookies typically last up to 90 days in your browser, and Meta retains event data according to its own retention schedule. Your consent choice is stored in a cookie set by the consent banner, and stays until it expires or you clear this site's cookies.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

• Access the personal data held about you
• Have it corrected or erased
• Restrict or object to its processing
• Data portability
• Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting prior processing
• Lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority
